5th Anniversary Year

In honor of our 5th Anniversary year, we decided to splurge on a two week vacation in Tanzania. The first week we took on the tallest mountain in Africa: Kilimanjaro. We can confidently say this was the biggest physical challenge we have faced yet! The second week entailed exploring the island of Zanzibar. From the spice farms to the white sandy beaches we are now sufficiently restored back to health. Our time in Tanzania was memorable indeed! We are grateful for all that we experienced, and for sharing it with each other.

  1. I loved reading this blog post. And the pictures are truly worth many words. But, I want to hear the story behind "Pole Pole" (is this what you were telling me means slowly?). It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since we shared the moment of your wedding day. However, you both continue to grow into amazing people and such a delightful couple. Three cheers for holidays, memories, and a big milestone to celebrate! :)

  2. "Pole pole" (pronounced: pole-eh, pole-eh) because there is an accent on the last "e," was the motto of our trip. Everyday our guide would recite this line countless times throughout our climb. It means "slowly, slowly" in Swahili. One of the best ways to adjust to high altitudes is too keep your heart rate at a steady pace. Our goal was to gain distance without acceleration. Towards the end, the phrase transformed from being instructive to motivating and encouraging. =)
